Synopsis

Mikronutrien memainkan peran penting dalam menjaga kesehatan tubuh dan fungsi biologis. Mikronutrien, termasuk vitamin dan mineral, dibutuhkan dalam jumlah kecil, tetapi, memiliki dampak besar pada proses metabolisme, pertumbuhan, dan perkembangan, salah satu mikronutrien tersebut ialah Magnesium (Mg). Mg adalah nutrisi esensial yang berperan pada berbagai reaksi metabolik seperti produksi energi, glikolisis, dan sintesis asam nukleus dan protein. Zat ini juga penting untuk fungsi oksidatif, imun, dan neuromuskular dan perkembangan tulang. Magnesium juga berperan dalam menjaga keseimbangan elektrolit dan kalsium, sodium, dan homeostasis potasium yang semua itu esensial untuk menstabilisasikan membran. Mg berperan sebagai antagonis kanal kalsium, menstimulasi prostasiklin vasodilator dan nitrit oksida, dan mengubah respon vascular menjadi agonis vasoaktif.

Seringkali defisiensi magnesium diabaikan dan tidak menjadi fokus, sehingga kurang diperhatikan pentingnya peran Mg sebagai mineral esensial di dalam fungsi metabolik dan homeostasis tubuh manusia. Magnesium menjadi mikronutrien yang penting untuk sekresi insulin pada penderita diabetes, dengan adanya magnesium yang mencukupi maka sekresi insulin bisa diperbaiki. Kecukupan magnesium juga membantu perbaikan gula darah dengan cara membantu kerja insulin, maka penting untuk memperhatikan kadar normal magnesium di dalam tubuh.

Magnesium juga dapat mengurangi komplikasi pada pasien diabetes salah satunya yaitu, gagal ginjal kronis. Pada kondisi gagal ginjal kronis, terjadi fibrosis pada bagian glomerulus. Proses fibrosis dapat memicu adanya pembentukan matriks protein pada prostat. Proses ini dapat dihambat atau dikurangi dengan kecukupan magnesium, yang juga berperan dalam mencegah fibrosis di area jantung.

Oleh sebab itu, buku ini membahas dengan rinci mikronutrien, khususnya magnesium dan peranannya untuk tubuh. Buku ini disusun untuk membantu dokter dan tenaga medis lainnya untuk mengetahui pentingnya magnesium dan perannya dalam patofisiologi penyakit. Melalui buku ini, diharapkan dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan pembaca dan menerapkannya dalam praktik klinis untuk meningkatkan kualitas perawatan pasien.
