Penyakit sirosis hati merupakan tahap akhir dari perjalanan alamiah penyakit hati kronik dengan beban tinggi morbiditas dan mortalitas secara global. Pada 2017, The Global Burden of Disease Study memperkirakan prevalensi penderita sirosis hati kompensata di seluruh dunia mencapai 112 juta orang. Selain itu, didapatkan peningkatan prevalensi penderita sirosis hati dekompensata dari 5.2 juta orang pada 1990 menjadi 10.6 juta pada 2017 (GBD 2017 Cirrhosis Collaborators, 2020). World Health Organization (WHO) memperkirakan mortalitas global akibat sirosis hati mencapai 2.4% pada 2019, dimana menduduki peringkat ke-5 penyebab kematian di Indonesia dengan 33.06 kematian per 100,000 populasi.
Buku referensi ini merupakan karya bersama Perhimpunan Dokter Spesialis Penyakit Dalam Indonesia: Surabaya - Denpasar - Malang - Makassar (SUDEMMA), yang ditulis bagi teman sejawat dokter umum, dokter spesialis penyakit dalam, dan konsultan gastroenterohepatologi, khususnya yang mempunyai minat dalam tata laksana sirosis hati. Dengan mempelajari buku referensi ini, diharapkan pemahaman seorang dokter akan penyakit sirosis hati dapat bertambah sehingga kualitas tatalaksana penyakit ini terus meningkat. Dalam buku referensi ini, dibahas mengenai patogenesis sirosis hati, diagnosis, komplikasi, dan perkembangan tatalaksananya yang terbaru di masa kini.
